After-School All-Stars Ohio to host Annual Fundraiser
After-School All-Stars Ohio will host its annual Evening of Stars fundraiser on Friday, March 1 at the new Hilton Columbus Downtown Hotel. The 2013 Evening of Stars will serve as a celebration of our recent expansion into schools in Dayton and Toledo, and new school sites in Columbus. We will share our successes and offer an opportunity to engage with our students and our programming. We will also highlight the talents and contributions of our community partners and avid supporters.
This year’s program will honor First Lady Karen Kasich and give special recognition to the President and CEO of Classic Productions, James Lorimer and former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for their commitment to After-School All-Stars.

Ohio’s First Lady visits the Toledo Museum of Art with ASAS Ohio students
Ohio’s First Lady Karen W. Kasich and students from Walbridge Elementary were treated to a special live glassmaking demonstration at the Toledo Museum of Art’s (TMA) Glass Pavilion. During the demonstration, students learned about the process and techniques in glassmaking.
Opened in 2006, the Glass Pavilion is home to TMA’s world-renowned glass collection, featuring more than 5,000 works of art from ancient to contemporary times. The 74,000-square-foot building also includes galleries for special glass exhibitions, artist studios, demonstration areas, and spaces for education, visitor relaxation, and special events.
The visit concluded with a private tour of the galleries where students were able to explore and ask questions about the art being featured.

All-Stars visit the OSU Aviation Center for C.E.O
All-Stars from Columbus City Preparatory Academy for Boys recently visited the Ohio State University Center for Aviation Studies and the OSU Airport as part of their ASAS Career Exploration Opportunities (C.E.O) curriculum.
The Center for Aviation Studies educates more than 250 students each quarter in all aspects of the air transportation system, and offers numerous outreach programs for kids of all ages. Richard Smith, III, Executive Director of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association and ASAS Ohio Board Member was on hand to give students insight on the future of careers in aviation.
C.E.O is an After-School All-Stars national initiative aimed at preparing students to thrive in the workplace and ever-changing economy. The program teaches financial literacy, career development, and entrepreneurialism. Through field trips, CEO connects youth with community leaders and role models from government, business, and the nonprofit sectors to learn 21st century workplace skills. Program Spotlight: United States Tennis Association 10 and Under Tennis
After-School All-Stars Ohio has partnered with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to offer students in all three ASAS Ohio cities free tennis lessons. The tennis lessons are taught through the USTA’s 10 and Under tennis program.
The 10 and Under program offers courts that are smaller and easier to cover, balls that bounce lower and slower that making them easier to hit, racquets sized for small hands that are easier to grip and swing and new scoring rules that allow for more and shorter matches.
Tennis is considered a lifetime sport, and ASAS Ohio is thrilled to be giving students another opportunity to stay healthy and active after school!
